I went out today for a four and a half hour 76 mile solo tour up to Wisconsin and back. Wound up being pretty brutal as the full two and a half hour return trip was directly into a strong and stead head wind. I mean yeah we’re not talking Tour de Georgia tough here, but this is the longest ride I’ve done probably since last year’s Mt. Hood race. I have to say that four and a half hours here is a whole different ball game than what I am used to since the entirety is pretty much dead flat. I mean you are working for the whole time, no nice downhill sections to coast a bit.
Could be worse though, I could be over in France with Aram trying to hang with those under 25 year old future pros. Makes my back hurt just thinking about it ;0)
I went out for my first group ride of the season tonight despite the crappy weather. Man those boys were going fast from start to finish and making me suffer. It didn’t help that the wind on the way out was just brutal. Pretty tough finding a draft at times. Since I have no real “race” fitness to speak of I was relying purely on muscle memory. It should be interesting to see how I feel tomorrow. It was an international affair out there only instead of the Mexican mafia I am accustomed to on the SoCal rides, here it was Germany and Poland representin. All in all I feel pretty good about the effort and honestly sometimes that is the way to get it back is to just jump in with both feet. At least the Twins won a nail biter tonight against Seattle. It was looking good early after we rocked the red hot Hernandez right outta tha game in the first inning. They are claiming tightness in the elbow, but I think they just didn’t want to see their franchise get pasted. Seattle has some bats though and our middle relief was struggling a bit. As usual lights out Nathan closed the deal but not without his usual heart pounding “let’s see how close we can come to losing this game” effort ;0)
Anyway tomorrow is Johan on the mound and so it should be a good game if your a Twins Fan!
