April 2006

Hope it’s a great day and a great year!

I am not really sure about that first part, but I am hopeful on the second. We just went into Escrow again and here’s hoping that the third time is the charm.

It’s funny, I never really think about my birthday until yours comes along. Then it reminds me that I am getting old. Gee thanks!

today I went looking for them up at the Clear Creek pass on the Angeles Forest Hwy. Then I dropped back down to join in the fun at the Rosebowl. I made a few hard efforts, but after all the intervals I was doing up the mountains I was pretty spent. I need to find my fitness in the next couple weeks. While the week-ends efforts were solid for me, I know that I cannot go up to Mt. Hood climbing like this. I mean I felt like I was pretty close to being there when the stuff hit the fan on the first big climb on Sunday. I just didn’t quite have the that extra cog in my legs that I needed to hang with the guys at the front. Still, I hung in the race to the finish and practiced good tactics right to the finish line. In fact I should have won the sprint out of my little three man group, except the other guy changed his line on me and if I would have kept on the gas he would have put me into the barricades. For 18th place on the day it wasn’t exactly worth my time to file a protest with the USCF officials. Bottom line was that I knew that I had won that sprint, and I feel good about that.

I made some really solid efforts today and my recovery has been pretty good. I was 18th out of 26 in the uphill TT, but I was able to ride over my threshold for fifteen minutes. This is far and away the best effort I have been able to produce in at least two years. Obviously after my results though I was not looking for GC and focused instead on trying to deliver one of our star sprinters Aron Ghadia to the stage win in the circuit race.

Westlake Circuit Race Start

Unfortunately, a three man break got up the road. And while I almost brought it back single handedly, in the end I could not get anyone else to close the gap despite my getting us within just a couple of seconds or it. So Aron won the field sprint for fourth. Hopefully I will recover nicely for tomorrow. While it is a pretty short road race (41 miles) it features some pretty tough little climbs. I will try to post again tomorrow with the post race re-cap.
