Actually, my post title is just a quote from “The Big Lebowski.” I have a program installed to my instance of Wordpress here that randomly post quotes from the movie to the header area when I am logged in as Adminstrator. That was today’s quote and seemed appropriate as it is Wednesday and I am having a little date with myself right now. I don’t mean that in some perverse way, just simply that I am taking a little me time here to do some journaling and self-reflection (while listening to some good old PHC). I needed some time to get a bit more organized. Our plans are to be in Chicago May 1st. That leaves precious little time and a mountain of work to get done between now and then.
Oh yeah, and I still have to do my job and ride my bike a boat-load (mostly up and down the road in the picture above). On that last front, I had a little god shot today. Since I do not believe in coincidence that is the way I am interpretting it. I went for a long mid afternoon ride today with my friends Stoney and James. We all met up an James’ place, but on my way over I got stopped at the red light at the bottom of my hill. While waiting there, my friend Manny rolled by. So I missed the first green light while talking to him (and was thus delayed for a couple of minutes). When I finally got to James’ house and we started riding for the Crest Hwy, almost immediately this cyclist came up one of the side streets and filed in behind the three of us. So I dropped back to chat and immediately recognized that he was wearing a team kit from a Chicago club. More interesting than that was that he turned out to have been roomates for a while with a friend of mine down in Tucson. Imagine, if I had gotten there just a few minutes earlier or later we probably never would have hooked up with this guy. Now I have another person to ride with as soon as I get to Chi-town, but more than anything he was reminding me that the season is just getting started there and that my big training/ racing interruption (due to my broken hip) may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
